A vaccine , skin patch, is being developed, to aid travelers from diarrhea and the associated upset that comes with it. Iomai Corp, in a clinical trial had very positive results with only three out of 59 people tested experiencing the adverse effects of diarrhea.
It is estimated that 20 million tourists are stricken with this unpleasant condition in each year. It is sometimes referred to as “Montezuma’s Revenge” due to this illness affecting tourists in Mexico.
The world health organization reports that 380,000 people die each year in poorer countries from the bacteria that kills them.
With a slap on patch this will be a relief to many travelers and to the residents of the countries involved .
This is still in the developmental stage and more tests are being scheduled for 2008. So relief is not going to happen immediately but the prospects look encouraging.
